Advanced Inspections

In order to be NFPA 1851 compliant, turnout gear must be inspected to NFPA 1851 standards. Inspection requirements include the following:

• NFPA 1851 requires that firefighter turnout gear have an advanced inspection twice a year, or whenever routine inspections indicate that a problem could exist. Advanced inspections must be conducted by the manufacturer, a manufacturer trained organization, or a verified ISP.

• Complete documentation of all advanced inspections will be kept on file by HAWAII PPE for the life of the PPE garment.
