Advanced Cleanings

In order to be NFPA 1851 compliant, turnout gear must be advanced cleaned to NFPA 1851 standards. The standards include the following:

• NFPA 1851 calls for advanced cleanings of firefighter turnout gear to be conducted twice a year minimum. 

• Advanced cleanings should also be conducted when routine cleaning fails to render the turnout gear sufficiently clean for service. 

• Complete documentation of all advanced cleanings will be kept on file by HAWAII PPE for the life of the PPE garment.
